The rapid development of artificial intelligence prompts us to ask fundamental questions about the nature of intelligence and what it means to be human. At the same time, we are facing a major societal shift where technological progress—just as during industrialization and digitalization—will reshape both our societies and the way we work.
Every technological breakthrough brings both risks and opportunities. With AI – An Immersive Journey into the Future and the program activities built around the production, we aim to provide a foundational understanding of what AI is—and what it is not. We want to offer people a glimpse under the hood of AI systems and how they operate. This foundational knowledge serves as the starting point for dialogue and discussion about what AI can be used for, the risks involved, and how we as humans can harness its potential to improve our societies—now and in the future.
This is the first production in which we are largely using the game engine Unreal. We’ve chosen to experiment with this to reduce rendering times, which for dome productions are usually measured in months or even years due to the high resolution required. Using software developed for real-time graphics (gaming) to create film has naturally brought its share of surprises and challenges. Dome film production is highly technical in every stage, and this has been a learning journey for the entire production team in close collaboration with research engineers to explore solutions to these new challenges.
